Sylvia Charp Award
Nominations Now Open for Charp Award
T.H.E. Journal and the International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE) are pleased to announce the 6th annual award program in honor of Dr. Sylvia Charp and her groundbreaking contributions and extended service to the education technology community.
T.H.E. Journal and ISTE will identify and recognize a school district that has shown effectiveness and innovation in the application of technology district-wide. The award has two focuses: district-wide implementation and innovation. District-wide implementation is important to ensure equity and appropriate technology use for ALL students in the district. Innovation is important because progress in education, as in all endeavors of our society, depends on new ideas.
The award will be presented at NECC 2009, June 28-July 1, 2009 in Washington, DC.
AWARD:
The District selected to receive this award will be:
- Honored and presented with its award at the annual National Educational Computing Conference in June 2009; and
- Presented with a check in the amount of $2,000 to go toward registration, travel, and housing to the annual National Education Computing Conference in June 2009 for two representatives from the winning district.

3. A letter from the Superintendent and/or school board president supporting the application.
NOMINATION ATTACHMENTS SHOULD INCLUDE:
- Description of the innovative district technology program, including a description of the extent to which the district has or plans to meet Innovative the Essential Conditions for Implementing NETS for Students (see http://cnets.iste.org/students/s_esscond.html) and a one-paragraph description of the technology planning process including a list of people involved.
- Description of the effectiveness and impact of the innovative district technology program, including evidence of impact on student achievement.
Districts may be asked to submit further or clarifying information.
