UK School Adopts Appliance-based NAC Security
Sutton Valence School in Kent in the United Kingdom is turning to an appliance-based solution for network access control. Sutton Valence, which comprises a senior school and a preparatory school, has deployed the CounterACT NAC appliance from ForeScout Technologies across its network.
The move to an appliance-based solution was aimed at ensuring compliance and protecting some 1,000 devices on the network, according to ForeScout. The network spans 15 buildings and one off campus location.
"We chose CounterACT because it enables us to protect our network from potentially damaging, unknown machines brought onsite by boarding school students and then connected to our network," said Mark Gosden, network manager at Sutton Valence School, in a statement released last week. "The main benefit since its deployment is that we no longer run the risk of our students flooding the network with viruses and other internet-based threats, as CounterACT continuously scans each laptop for malware and alerts students, when necessary, to update their anti-virus solutions. With such a high number of new boarding students joining us each term from countries around the world, the type and scale of threats brought onto the network can be vast."
Gosden said the ForeScout solution provided the features the school required at a lower cost than other solutions on the market.
