CafeMom Launches $10 Million Schools Initiative

CafeMom, an online community site for moms, is enlisting parents in an initiative to donate up to $10 million dollars to support schools nationwide and, presumably, increase its own Web traffic.
CafeMom has created 100,000 school groups so that all of the K-12 schools nationwide are represented on the site. Moms can go online and join their local school group at cafemom.com/schools. All groups with 20 or more participating parents by September 30 will get $100 for their school. The company said the program is intended to provide a forum for parents to stay informed about school news and events, talk about issues and concerns, and connect with others in their local school.
"I'm so excited about this program because it has already introduced me to so many other moms who also want to be more involved in their children's education," said CafeMom member Kelly Cagle. "In this day and age, where everyone is incredibly busy, it's so important for us to have an easy way for us to connect and stay updated on the events that take place in our children's schools and lives."
The site features customizable profile pages, a widget platform, mom-created groups, friends' networks, and privacy/anonymity controls.
To locate a particular school, the user enters a zip code, city and state, or school name and state.
