Education Development Center Brings Open Source Math Curriculum to Curriki
Non-profit education research organization Education Development Center (EDC) is expanding the reach of its open source education tools. At the NECC 2008 conference this week, the firm announced it's partnering with Curriki to deliver K-12 open source curricula. Curriki is an online education community and repository for K-12 resources for teachers and students.
EDC, now in its 50th year, currently manages about 300 education- and health-related projects in 35 countries. To kick off its new partnership with Curriki, it's offering users its standards-based middle school algebra course, called "Building Algebraic Thinking in the Middle Grades," which focuses on patterns and functions. Development of the course was originally funded by the National Science Foundation, according to the company.
"Our collaboration with Curriki will allow EDC to make more widely available our research-based curricula and programs in mathematics, science, literacy, and other areas," said EDC President and CEO Luther Luedtke in a statement released this week. "We're excited to join with Curriki to further expand the use of our materials to educators around the country and around the world."
EDC said it's also working with Curriki to offer its research-based educational content in the United States and abroad.
The full EDC course is available now on Curriki, along with a course introduction and additional resources. Further information, including the course itself, can be found here.
