Missouri Says 'Show Me' the Test Results
The Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) has tapped Riverside Publishing to create a series of high school end of course assessments that will gauge student learning and achievement in the context of the state's Show-me Standards and course-level expectations.
Under the Missouri Assessment Program (MAP), Riverside will create 10 new assessments that will help measure student readiness for post-high school college and career activities. Riverside will develop custom test items and forms, set achievement levels for each assessment, provide scoring and reporting services, and supply training for teachers. The test rollout should be along an "ambitious timetable," according to Stan Johnson, DESE assistant commissioner:
“We will have to move fast to develop the first three tests in time for the 2008–09 school year,” he said in a prepared statement.
Riverside, a subsidiary of education publisher Houghton Mifflin Co., will partner with assessment firm Questar Assessment and the University of Missouri's Assessment Resource Center (ARC) to create the assessments for DESE's MAP program.
