'Number Worlds' Expanded to Middle Schoolers
Education publisher SRA/McGraw-Hill has expanded its Number Worlds program to include middle school math. Number Worlds is an intervention program designed to help students catch up with their peers in math. It was previously available only for preK-6 students.
According to SRA, roughly 31 percent of eighth-grade students scored below basic on the 2005 National Assessment of Educational Progress. Number Worlds is designed to bring students who are behind one or two grade levels up to par using a combination of guided discussion, hands-on activities, response activities, and computer activities.
Features include:
- Placement tests to help get students started at the appropriate level of intervention;
- A "Math Background" tool to help educators teach math concepts and relate them to other concepts;
- A "How Students Learn" resource to familiarize teachers with the math concepts the students should be learning; and
- Support for ELL students.
