The benefits of integrating technology into K-12 education are being demonstrated nationwide. Here is an illustration of the quantitative impact Texas’ Technology Immersion Pilot has had on the Floydada Independent School District.
Percentage-point increases between 2005 and 2006 in the number of Floydada
ISD secondary students who passed various portions of the Texas Assessment of
Knowledge and Skills (TAKS) test.
The most dramatic finding is the growth in the percentage of Floydada ISD 10thgraders who passed the math and science sections of the TAKS. From 2005 to 2006, the percentage of students who passed TAKS math went up 36 points, while science saw a 34-point rise. Also notable is the 29-point increase in the percentage of the district’s sixth-graders who passed the test’s math portion. Similar data is offered by another TIP participant, Brady Independent School District.
